Chief Robert Kennaley 57, has neck cancer. Chief is a Navy veteran of 14yrs of service. He began his police career in 2005 graduating from the Wayne regional police academy. He spent 5 yrs in Northville and 4 years with Oakland community college before coming to Melvindale in 2010. Robert Kennaley became Melvindale Police Chief in 2024. He has been married to his lovely wife Lorie for 20 yrs. They have a blended family of love that consist of 3 sons and 4 daughters. They have a total of 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
When the Chief isn’t fighting crime he enjoys hunting, fishing, biking and walking the dog. Chief was also a K-9 officer handler.
His department loves and respects him and often refers to him as their second Dad. The community also loves and supports our beloved chief and we our proud to support him and his family through this difficult time.
